The invention relates to the use of nanocomposite materials in plastic packaging applications to reinforce their ability to protect against infrared and ultraviolet-visible radiation. This nanocomposites comprises a plastic matrix, a nanoreinforcement which is a clay and optionally an organic or hybrid substances intercalated in the laminar structure of the clay. The method for obtaining said nanocomposite comprises the following steps: reducing the size of the laminar particles by mechanical action, removal of crystalline oxides and hard particles not modified, obtaining fine laminar material or laminar structures, pre-treating the laminar structures using precursors, and adding the product of the above steps, either in the liquid state or in the dry state, to a plastic matrix.
