Knowledege of the power control delay in radio communication systems utilizing MISO (Multiple Input Single Output), SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) or MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) can be used to enhance transmit diversity control. A mobile device transmits a first signal containing first precoding parameters for a predetermined time. The signal is then transmitted using second precoding parameters for the predetermined time, the second precoding parameters being different than the first precoding parameters. A base station or nodeB will transmit TPC (transmission power control) commands to the mobile device in response to the signals transmitted from the mobile device. By observing a timing of the TPC commands received, compared with the change in transmitted signals used to trigger the change, a power control delay can be determined. The different precoding parameters may relate to different antenna configurations. The above cycle may be repeated a number of times. |
