PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent that allows formation of a liquid crystal aligning film for retardation film that enables optical alignment even by a small amount of radiation and requires no heating process during irradiation and thereafter, and a retardation film that includes the liquid crystal aligning film for retardation film and is excellent in liquid crystal alignment property and thermal stability and a method of manufacturing the same.

SOLUTION: A liquid crystal aligning agent for retardation film contains [A] cellulose including a group having a cinnamic acid structure, in which [A] cellulose is represented by formula (1).
