523,981. Transformer windings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 18, 1939, No. 1764. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1938. [Class 38 (ii)] Insulation, applications of.-A high voltage winding 6 is insulated by means of crepe paper 4 which is first compressed then rolled around an insulating cylinder 5 with the corrugations of the crepe running axially and the winding 6, spacers 8 and insulating rings 9 placed in position, then the part extending beyond the windings is damped, pressed outwardly to form a flange 12 and afterwards dried. The damping causes the paper to swell to approximately its original thickness thus giving increased dielectric strength at the ends. The ends 12 may be folded back over the winding. The outward flange may be effected centrifugally by rotating the structure. |
