The method involves carrying out optical scanning of some portions of to-be-centered hollow workpiece (10), importing scanned data in a processor for determining priorities of individual sections of workpiece from the scanned data, and forming a common center of gravity of the same. The scanned workpiece is sent into the centering machine (40) for milling the center of workpiece, according to the comparison result of scanned data and the ideal data from a CAD model. The workpiece is cut along the machined center (15), to carry out final cutting finishing of workpiece. An independent claim is included for system for centering rotationally symmetrical hollow elongated workpieces.
