The automation system (1) has automation devices (3) for realizing multiple automation functions (13). A controller (5) is provided for controlling the automation devices. The controller has multiple data records (7) with handling instructions (9) for multiple types of automation devices with corresponding automation functions. A communication network (11) is provided for communication between the controller and the automation devices. An independent claim is included for a method for diagnosis, adjustment or optimization of an automation device.
