528,421. Windows. DUTFIELD, A. E., RAWLINGS, E. J., and RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. May 6, 1939, No. 13598. [Class 20 (iii)] Adjusting apparatus for the movable panel of a half-drop window comprises a threaded rigid rod 4 supported at its upper end in a fixed housing and at its lower end on a channel member 3 over the upper edge of the fixed panel 1. The rod is engaged by a threaded lug 5 secured to a channel member 6 over the upper edge of the movable panel 2. The rod 5 is rotated by a handle 9 through gearing in a casing 8, to raise or lower the panel 2. In a modification, the rod 4 may be inverted so that the casing 8 and handle 9 are at the lower end, and in another modification the handle 9 is arranged to rotate a nut within the member 5, the rod 4 being non- rotatable. In all cases the housings for the ends of the rod and the member. 5 are detachably secured to their respective members so that the mechanism can be removed as a unit from the window. To prevent binding of the window 2 in its guides, the channel 10 is lined with felt or velvet 10<SP>1</SP> and the edge of the pane is contained in a channel 2<SP>1</SP> lined with rubber 2x. A thin metal strip 11 is bowed so that it exerts a cushioning effect on the channel 2<SP>1</SP>. Specification 518,538 is referred to.
