The invention relates to protecting a non-motorised vehicle 20 (e.g. bicycle, tricycle, scooter or skateboard) from a motorised vehicle 10 (e.g. car, van, bus or truck). It comprises a communication device such as an RFID tag 21 on the non-motorised vehicle. The communication device emits a signal 23, e.g. identifying a hazardous situation. A monitoring device 11 in the motorised vehicle receives the emitted signal when the two devices are within a predetermined distance of one another and emits a hazard signal in response. The hazard signal may be an audible or visual warning to the driver of the motorised vehicle. Alternatively the emitted signal may be received by an item of street furniture, e.g. road sign 30, and the hazard signal may be a warning message 35 displayed there-on. In another embodiment, the first signal is emitted when the non-motorised vehicle is within a predetermined distance of the motorised vehicle. |
