Disclosed are an antibody or a functional fragment thereof that recognize human CD40 antigen present on a surface of human B cells and human dendritic cells. The antibody has amino acid sequences of a heavy chain variable region and a light chain variable region of antibody produced by hybridoma 4D11. The antibody is useful, for example, as immunosuppressive agent, for treating autoimmune disease or the like.
