PURPOSE: A control circuit device for an electric water pump and control method thereof are provided to prevent battery discharge duration from decreasing due to dark current by blocking battery main power through a control circuit. CONSTITUTION: A control circuit device for an electric water pump comprises a battery(5), a motor driven water pump(6), a control circuit(7) and a protection circuit(10). The motor driven water pump circulates the coolant in a cooling line which connects the engine of the water pump and a heat exchanger. An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) controls the motor driven water pump. The control circuit maintains a power state by supplying battery main power to the water pump. The control circuit prevents a hot spot in the engine by driving the water pump even after the engine stops. The protection circuit blocks the main power supplied to the water pump from the battery when the battery reaches the limiting voltage. The protection circuit blocks the generation of dark current in the control circuit.
