PURPOSE: An energy storage system is provided to block energy supplied to a unit cell package or to block power of the unit cell package by monitoring overcharge or overheat state of a unit cell package. CONSTITUTION: An energy storage system comprises: a unit cell package that a plurality of unit cells are connected in series or parallel; input/output units supplying energy to the unit cell package or outputting energy stored in the unit cell package; a switch connecting or disconnecting between the unit cell package and the input/output unit; a slave monitoring voltage of the plurality of unit cell and/or the unit cell package; and a master transferring monitored information from the slave, and generating signals for controlling the slave and the switch.
