<p>The present invention relates to a biodegradable composite material, its production process and uses thereof. The material of this invention comprises a cellulose matrix obtained from recycled bond paper which is reinforced with corn fiber bracts (covering leaves of a corn cob), both made of waste materials. Due to its mechanical, physical, thermal and acoustic properties, said material may substitute lightweight materials such as those made from polyurethane foam and expanded polystyrene that are widely used in the automotive, construction, toy and sport goods industries, as well as in a large number of applications and that are usually pollutants because they are difficult or impossible to recycle and non- biodegradable materials. The composite material of the invention may be manufactured by a die casting process, being flexible enough so as to be shaped in a variety of forms depending on the design of the mold to be used. After a drying process, the material retains its shape and has good rigidity and resistance. Optionally, the material may be infiltrated with molten rosin to improve its mechanical resistance to moisture, temperature and external biological agents, thereby obtaining a different material with properties similar to those of ordinary wood, agglomerates and some plastics, with the advantage that it is made from waste materials and 100% recyclable and biodegradable. The object of the present invention is to provide a substitute for materials that are not currently available in the market, which is fully biodegradable due to the natural components thereof and applicable mainly, but not exclusively, in the construction and automotive industry, as it comprises the features and advantages of materials commonly used in these fields without polluting or causing environmental damage and at low production cost.</p> |
