Preparing formamide compound (I), comprises reacting amine compound (II) with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst and a silane compound (III). Preparing formamide compound of formula (H-C(=O)-N((R1)(R2))) (I), comprises reacting amine compound of formula (H-N((R1)(R2))) (II) with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst and a silane compound of formula (H-Si((R3)(R4)(R5))) (III). Either R1, R2 : H, aldimine group of formula (-N=CHR6) (a), ketamine group of formula (-N=CR6R7) (b), alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, (hetero)aryl, heterocyclic, silyl, siloxy or NH 2(all optionally substituted); or R1R2 : heterocycle (optionally substituted); or R1R2 : carbon nitrogen double bond (N=C) to yield (a) or (b); either R3-R5 : alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, silyl, siloxy, aryl, NH 2(all optionally substituted), H, halo or OH; or R3R4+Si : silylated heterocycle (optionally substituted); and R6, R7 : alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, (hetero)aryl, heterocyclic, silyl, siloxy, NH 2(all optionally substituted) or H.
