The tool (6) has a surface (9) carrying a test pattern (9a) that co-operates with an infra-red camera. A fixation unit fixes the tool on a model placed inside a motor vehicle subjected to an impact test. The fixation unit has a cylindrical finger projected with respect to a magnetic element (12) e.g. cylindrical natural or synthetic magnet, in a direction opposite to that of the surface. The finger is engaged in a cylindrical hole formed on a portion of the model. An elongated flat support (23) is situated in a plane perpendicular to an axis of the finger and the magnetic element.
