The device has a mast (12) whose lift element (70) lifts and transports the mast. Fixing elements (14, 16) fix a gas bottle (20) at the mast. One fixing element is fixed at the mast. Another fixing element is slidably fixed to the mast to successively cooperate with positioning elements of the mast and to occupy fixed discrete longitudinal positions along the mast. A blocking element i.e. pin, cooperates with the latter and positioning elements to prevent sliding of the latter element when the latter element occupies the position and to temporarily fix the latter element at the mast. An independent claim is also included for a transportation system for gas bottles.
