Disclosed is a method for reducing power consumption of a display screen, comprising: determining whether a current operation is a blocking operation; and if the current operation is a blocking operation, enabling the display screen to be in a low power consumption working mode, and when the blocking operation ends, restoring the display screen to a normal working mode. When the display screen is in the low power consumption working mode, if it is detected that a user has an input intention, the display screen is restored to the normal working mode. Also disclosed is a system for reducing power consumption of a display screen, comprising a blocking operation determination module, a working mode control module, and a user input intention detection module. Through the present invention, when a current operation is a time-consuming blocking operation, power consumption of a display screen can be significantly reduced.
