The method involves driving coupling unit (2) by control and regulating device (3). The actual temperature corresponding to switching temperature is compared with predetermined set temperature. The braking operation of vehicle is detected when actual temperature is lower than limit temperature. The coupling unit is activated to connect air conditioner compressor with vehicle engine when actual temperature in vehicle falls below switching temperature and lies above limit temperature. An independent claim is included for air conditioner.
