Provided is a cerium complex which has an emission peak in the visible light range and emits light in the visible light range. This cerium complex has a ligand that is represented by one of formulae (1)-(3). (In the formulae, each of R1-R17 independently represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; each of B1-B11 and C1-C3 independently represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbondiyl group; and each of a, b, c, d, e and f independently represents an integer not less than 1.)
