<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peripheral environment recognition device capable of registering information indicating the type of a light loaded on a vehicle and a method for the same. <P>SOLUTION: A peripheral environment recognition device 1 includes an in-vehicle camera for recognizing a color, and recognizes a peripheral environment on the basis of an image acquired by the in-vehicle camera. The peripheral environment recognition device 1 further includes: a processor 10; an input device 30 for inputting information indicating the type of the light loaded on the vehicle to the processor; and a storage device 20.
