<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus that can uniform the thickness of starting and finishing ends during intermittent coating and form a functional sheet excellent in terminal linearity in a manufacturing method for applying a coating film on a base material to obtain a functional sheet. <P>SOLUTION: A coating material 6 and a sheet-like base material 7 are passed through a gap between two rolls 2, 3 to transfer the coating film on the base material and to obtain a coating sheet 9. Before transferring the coating film, a mask 8 is closely adhered to a region where the coating film is not transferred, on a surface where the coating film of the base material is transferred.
