IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND TONE CORRECTION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform tone correction in a highly accurate manner while suppressing toner consumption.

SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 forms a toner image for tone correction on an intermediate transfer belt 11, and detects the density of the toner image with a toner sensor 17. A control unit 40 performs tone correction on the basis of the density detection result. The image forming apparatus 100 increases an area for forming a toner image for tone correction as the operation state advances (for example, as the number of printing increases). The toner image with the increased forming area is arranged at a position to offset cycle unevenness that occurs in forming a toner image.
