<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video processing apparatus and a video processing method that are capable of automatically detecting each format of stereoscopic video or 2D/3D distinction. <P>SOLUTION: A video processing apparatus comprises: histogram generation means that generates a histogram on the basis of the luminance levels of pixels of a video signal; and determination means that determines whether the video signal represents stereoscopic video on the basis of the histogram.
