The occupant protection device comprises an electric motor (8) which is coupled with a vehicle seat for adjusting seat position. The electric motor is indirectly connected to a detection unit (2) for the detection of a critical driving situation. The vehicle seat is slidable against a direction of a vehicle (1) by the electric motor according to a function of the critical driving situation detected by the detection unit. A seatbelt status is detectable by another detection unit (5), where the vehicle seat is slidable by the electric motor according to the detected seatbelt status.
