<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery module which facilitates attaching of an exhaust duct and is capable of increasing the size of cleavage valves. <P>SOLUTION: First and second battery cells 20A, 20B constituting a battery module are arrayed alternately and reversely. Both positive and negative electrode external terminals 21, 31 are provided on a battery lid 3 of each battery cell 20A, 20B, and a cleavage valve 12 is formed in the lid. A first battery cell 20A has the cleavage valve 12 formed closely to the negative electrode external terminal 31, and a second battery cell 20B has the cleavage valve 12 formed closely to the positive electrode external terminal 21.
