The carriage airbag (1) has a shock-sensitive sensor, an airbag control unit and an airbag inflation device. The carriage airbag is installed in different body elements of a motor vehicle (2) for damping a deformation of the elements during a hard collision. The body elements is provided for installing a carriage airbag and provided as a front or rear bumper bar (3), a front or rear mud wing (4), a fire bulkhead (6), an undercarriage or a beam (7), vehicle columns (9), and a roof (10) of a hatch door (11).
