The engine (10) has a main portion that is provided with an exhaust gas turbocharger and an electrically operated compressor (32). The exhaust gas turbocharger is provided with various shaped turbines. The compressor is connected to a voltage source with an electrical voltage range between 10V to 15V. The compressor is connected to absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery as voltage source. An independent claim is included for a method for operating internal combustion engine.
