<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna which has good characteristics and contributes to reduction of the size and the thickness, and to provide a communication apparatus using the antenna. <P>SOLUTION: An antenna includes an antenna substrate 21 and a dielectric member 20 and is disposed on an inner surface of a housing of a communication device so as to have a gap with a plate surface of a printed circuit board 3 forming the communication device. The dielectric member 20 is provided on a plate surface of the antenna substrate 21 which faces an inner surface 10a of the housing 10. This structure eliminates the need for a space for disposing a dielectric body on the printed circuit board 3 and obtains effective wavelength shortening effect with the dielectric member 20 provided on the plate surface of the antenna substrate 21.
