A flash-related function involves flash range indication to indicate when one or more subjects are in the range of a flash and indicate when one or more subjects are not in the range of the flash. The indications may be made to a user on an electronic viewfinder during photograph composition to assist the user in composing a quality photograph. Another flash-related function involves automatically turning on a fill flash when a potential subject is backlight.
