Provided are: a gene coding for an enzyme that reduces position 24 of a steroid skeleton; and a method for producing a steroid and a vitamin D3. The present invention involves: an enzymatic transformation method that, using a cell-free system, cells, or a plant, reduces a double bond at position 24 of a steroid skeleton in the presence of a protein having enzymatic activity for reducing the double bond at position 24 of an exogenous steroid skeleton or the expression of DNA coding for the protein; and a method for producing a compound having the double bond at position 24 of a steroid skeleton reduced using the enzymatic transformation method. |
