The device has an inflatable gas bag (4) with a guide passage that is formed at a seat belt (3). Several rib-like structures are formed in the surface of the gas bag transverse to a longitudinal extension of the seat belt. The seat belt is displaced as a wave-shaped profile during inflation of the gas bag. A helical extending channel is formed in section of the gas bag. A gas generator (5) is connected with the gas bag.
