<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce a desired phase shift function in a dispersion compensator using a spatial light modulator. <P>SOLUTION: Wavelength multiplex signal light in which signal light having a plurality of wavelengths is multiplexed is input from a first port 11 of an optical circulator 10 through an optical fiber and is output from a second port 12, and is input into an array waveguide diffraction grating 20 having only one slab waveguide. In the array waveguide diffraction grating 20, the wavelength multiplex signal light is spatially separated at each wavelength, is collimated by a lens (not shown) mounted in a condenser lens 30 side of the array waveguide diffraction grating 20, and then is condensed on a spatial phase modulator 40 by the condenser lens 30. Each of the signal light having different wavelengths is condensed on different areas on the spatial phase modulator 40 with a spot size w. The spot size w is restricted so as to satisfy a specific inequality expression in the relation with a width X of a phase providing element possessed by the spatial phase modulator 40, a channel bandwidth B<SB POS="POST">0</SB>, etc. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
