Disclosed in the invention is a method for providing multimedia service, which comprises the following steps: a service controller receives a media service redirection request transmitted by a user terminal, selects a media server, and returns a redirection response message carrying the attribute information of the selected media server to the user terminal; the media server receives a media service request transmitted by the user terminal, selects a storage server stored with a media service content requested by the user terminal, reads the content requested by the user in the selected storage server, and provides the requested media service content for the user terminal, wherein a multimedia content issued by a content management server is stored in each storage server. The invention also discloses a system, service controller and media server for providing multimedia service. By the separation between the storing ability and the serving capability of the invention, the capacity-enlarging ability and the serving ability of the system are increased.
