A thermal imager 10 for use in a hazardous environment comprises a shutter or paddle 18 disposed between a detector 16, such as a microbolometer, and a lens 14. A motor 22 is connected to the shutter 18 for moving the shutter between a first and a second position. There is a source of electrical energy connected to one or more of the detector 16, lens 14 and motor 22 by an electrical circuit. The electrical circuit (Fig. 2) comprises one or more of a capacitor, a diode, and a resistor which reduce one or more of the capacitance, voltage, and inductance of the electrical energy in the electrical circuit to below the non-incendiary level required for an intrinsically safe system. The detector 16 may be an infrared Focal Plane Array (FPA) detector and a non-uniformity correction (NUC) may be performed by moving the shutter 18 in between the lens 14 and detector 16.
|
