The method involves producing a laying trench (38) in the earth (E) for receiving a conductor (22) that is displaced. The conductor is inserted in the laying trench by an insertion element (18) extending in the laying trench. The insertion element is moved on the base (40) of the laying trench in the longitudinal direction of the laying trench. A conductor positioning data is determined along the positioned conductor during positioning of the conductor in the laying trench by repeated measurement of a point which is moved together with the insertion element. An independent claim is included for a system for monitored laying of conductors in earth.
