摘要 <p>A method is disclosed for performing on/off diagnosis of a smart cooling pump for an internal combustion engine (ICE) comprising the steps of: measuring the current value of a plurality of engine parameters including at least a coolant layer temperature (Tc) and an inner liner layer temperature (TL) and measuring the current value of the ambient temperature (Ta); modeling the current value of the average temperature (TavgL) of an inner liner layer (L) by solving at least one enthalpy balance equation, at least one heat exchange equation and by solving at least one combustion heat flow equation and at least one friction heat flow equation for the engine. On/off status diagnosis of the smart cooling pump is performed by comparing the modeled average temperature (TavgL) with the measured temperature (TL) of the inner liner layer. The determined status of the smart cooling pump is compared with the status of the smart cooling pump requested by an electronic control unit (ECU) for the internal combustion engine. Control of the smart cooling pump and/or said internal combustion engine is carried out based on the diagnosis results. The method allows control of ICE in the event of coolant pump failure.</p>
