The crane controller includes a load moment limitation system which determines the maximum permitted payload, set in communication with a measuring unit for measuring the movement of ship (1). The maximum permitted payload is determined on the basis of data of the measuring unit. The load moment limitation system determines the speed and/or acceleration of the boom tip, in particular in the vertical direction, by the evaluation of data of the measuring unit for measuring the movement of ship, to determine the maximum permitted payload. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method of operating crane arranged on ship; and (2) crane control program.
