An air cushion support apparatus 10 for the buttocks and thighs of a seated person comprises at least three longitudinal parallel cushions 14, 16, 18 extending lengthways from the rear of the support apparatus 10 towards the front and a nose cushion 12 mounted transverse to the three parallel lengthwise cushions 14, 16, 18. Pressure sensing valves 13, 17 are fitted to both the nose cushion 12 and the intermediate longitudinal cushion 16. The valves 13, 17 sense pressure points at the backs of the knees and the buttocks respectively and release air from the compartments accordingly. The support apparatus 10 is configured for both a sitting posture and a lying posture, and may be used as a lightweight seat cushion in an airline seat (20, Figure 1). |
