PURPOSE: A negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided to provide a battery with high capacity and excellent cycle lifetime performance. CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprises a metal-based active material and a solid electrolyte of which ion conductivity is 1.0 × 10^(-4) - 4.0 × 10^(-3) S/cm. the solid electrolyte is coated on the surface of the metal-based active material. The solid electrolyte is at least one selected from chemical formula 1: LiaXbYcZd(PO4)3, chemical formula 2: LiaXbYc and chemical formula 3: NaXbYcZdOe. A lithium secondary battery comprises a negative electrode comprising a negative electrode active material, a positive electrode comprising a positive electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte.
