547,209. Purifying saccharine liquids. HOLLY SUGAR CORPORATION. July 23, 1941, No. 9345. Convention date, July 31, 1940. [Class 127] In purifying beet juices by addition of calcium hydrate or saccharate and precipitation of calcium carbonate by passage of carbon dioxide into the liquid, the precipitated calcium carbonate is calcined in a direct-fired furnace to obtain lime and gases sufficiently rich in carbon dioxide for use together with the lime in the process. The lime obtained from the precipitate may be mixed with lime obtained by calcining limestone in which case higher consentration of carbon dioxide is necessary for treating the juices, and the higher concentration is obtained by mixing the gases from the direct-fired furnace with those from the vertical kilns used for calcining the limestone. Specification 334,500 is referred to.
|
