PURPOSE: A hair dye composition containing a phlorotannin mixture isolated from Ecklonia cava is provided to improve permeation and to enhance dying fastness. CONSTITUTION: A hair dye composition for oxidative dyeing contains a phlorotannin mixture isolated from Ecklonia cava. The phlorotannin mixture is isolated by hot water extraction or solvent extraction. The phlorotannin mixture is a powder phase or solid phase of phloroglucinol, phlorotannin A, eckol, dieckol, 8,8'-bieckol, phlorofucofucoeckol A, 6,6'-bieckol, triphloroethol A, phloroeckol, fucodiphlorethol E, or a mixture thereof.
