[Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Aqueous solutions of organic peracids or their salts are obtained by reaction of an organic acid anhydride with an inorganic compound yielding active oxygen in an aqueous solution of not more than 3 - vol. strength and having a pH of at least 10.0. Specified anhydrides are those of acetic, succinic, glycollic, maleic, benzoic, phthalic, cyclohexanecarboxylic, benzenesulphonic, nicotinic, quinolinic andα- furoic acids and specified compounds yielding active oxygen are hydrogen peroxide, sodium peroxide and alkali metal perborates, perphosphates, percarbonates and persulphates. The required alkalinity of the solution may be obtained by addition of caustic soda, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, trisodium phosphate, borax, sodium silicate or soap. Examples relate to the reaction of sodium peroxide with phthalic and acetic anhydrides and of sodium perborate with succinic, maleic and glutaric anhydrides. Specification 549,015 is referred to. |
