PURPOSE: A soldering iron is provided to ensure easy carriage and storage by mounting an iron tip on a carrier to be moved in and out of an iron body. CONSTITUTION: A soldering iron comprises a guide rail(52) which is formed on the inner surface of an iron body and arranged along the length of the iron body, a carrier(20) which is moved along the guide rail between a forward position(A) and a backward position in an additional space(11), a carrier retaining unit(30) which maintains the carrier in the forward position until the carrier is forcibly pushed toward the backward position from outside and maintains the carrier in the backward position until the carrier is forcibly pulled toward the forward position from outside, an iron tip(40) which is exposed out of the additional space when the carrier is in the forward position and retracted in the additional space when the carrier is in the backward position, a heater(54) which is moved along with the carrier while contacting the iron tip in the additional space, and a lead wire(62) which is connected to the heater and an external power source.
