<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2-menthoxyethanol from menthoxyacetate under a hydrogen atmosphere, using, as a catalyst, a ruthenium complex that is easily prepared and handled and can be acquired at a relatively low cost. <P>SOLUTION: In this method for producing 2-menthoxyethanol, a ruthenium carbonyl complex represented by general formula RuXY(CO)(L) is used as the catalyst. In the general formula, X and Y may be the same or different, and show an anionic ligand. L shows a three-dentate aminodiphosphine ligand having two phosphino groups and an -NH- group. Menthoxyacetate represented by general formula (A) is hydrogenated and reduced using a hydrogen donor. In general formula (A), X shows a 1-4C alkyl group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
