<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of scratches of a fixing belt, while securing the separability of a sheet, in a fixing device adopting a contact type separation member. <P>SOLUTION: A separation member 102 is arranged to face the circumferential surface of a fixing belt 50 fitted to the outer circumference of a fixing roller 100, the separation member 102 preventing the sheet after passing through a fixing nip part from being stuck and wound on the circumferential surface of the fixing belt 50. A gap G of predetermined distance is secured between the top end 102A of the separation member 102 and the circumferential surface of the fixing belt 50 and a pair of butting members 104 are arranged at both ends of the separation member 102, to form the gap G. Energizing force is applied to the separation member 102 by an energizing spring 110, so that the top end 102A goes to the circumferential surface of the fixing belt 50.
