<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a recognition rate in recognition of magnetic ink characters. <P>SOLUTION: A check reader 1 which includes a conveyance path 5, a top-side contact image sensor 52, a magnetic head 54, and a control part 71 determines a first character cutting start position from magnetically acquired signal waveform data to cut character waveform data within a range corresponding to one magnetic ink character, and then determines a character cutting start position for a magnetic ink character right after the one magnetic ink character of the signal waveform data based upon a second character cutting stat position when magnetic ink character recognition on the cut character waveform data is performed and a character type cannot be recognized and when a second character cutting start position is determined from optically acquired image data to cut character image data within the range corresponding to one magnetic ink character, optical character recognition on the cut character image data, and a character type can be recognized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
