#CMT# #/CMT# The damping unit has a damping agent source (13) e.g. spraying box, arranged in a chamber. A damping distributor roll (9) and polishing roll close an opening (28) in the chamber except a gap, which circulates the opening. The gap is defined by the rolls and an edge of the chamber, where the edge circulates the opening. The chamber includes vents (29) apart from the opening, a discharge outlet and/or a feed line. The vents are not arranged at a lowest point of the chamber. Each vent includes a cross-sectional area that is larger than 1 percentage of another cross-sectional area of the opening. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Damping unit e.g. brush damping unit, centrifuge damping agent and spraying damping unit, for applying damping agent on an offset-printing plate for ensuring separation of a printing color transmitting region and a printing color non-transmitting region of the printing plate of a printing unit e.g. offset-printing unit, dual printing unit and satellite printing unit, of a rotary offset printing press i.e. roller rotary offset printing press, which is used for printing a print substrate e.g. paper and paper web. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The chamber includes the vents apart from the opening, the discharge outlet and/or the feed line, thus preventing occurrence of high pressure in the chamber, and preventing undesired emission of damping agent drops together with excessive air. The vent includes the cross-sectional area, which is larger than 1 percentage of another cross-sectional area of the opening, thus reducing a flow resistance, and enabling better and effective collection, application and removal of damping agent drops. The vents are not arranged at the lowest point of the chamber, thus processing only a relevant portion of the damping agent. The unit saves damping agent, energy and cost, and avoids the need for unnecessary components.
