<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass polarizer for visible light, having an unprecedentedly excellent polarization properties for practical use in a projection type liquid crystal display device, in particular with an average transmittance of 70% or higher and an average extinction ratio of 20 dB or higher in a blue light wavelength range of 430 to 500 nm. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a glass polarizer comprises: dispersing and precipitating silver halide particles in glass through heat treatment of a borosilicate glass containing silver halide, reducing the silver halide particles to metal silver particles having an average particle diameter of 15 to 25 nm through a reducing heat treatment, and heat-drawing the glass with a large tensile force of 800 to 1300 kgf/cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>so as to form metal silver particles which are elongated and uniaxially oriented in the glass. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
