<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer capable of improving the gloss of printed matter by smoothing the roughness of the surface of a protective layer. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal printer includes: an ink ribbon 3 having at least a color layer 11y, a color layer 11m, a color layer 11c, and the protective layer 11p; a thermal head 1 configured to print on paper 4, which is printing paper, by using the ink ribbon 3; and a control circuit 9 serving as a control section configured to control the operation of the thermal head 1. The control circuit 9 operates the thermal head 1 so that the protective layer 11p is transferred onto the paper 4 to which the color layers 11y, 11m, and 11c have been transferred and, further, heat is applied to the surface of the protective layer 11p by using a specific area of the ink ribbon 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
