APPROXIMATING VEHICLE DETECTION DEVICE AND APPROXIMATING VEHICLE DETECTION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an approximating vehicle detection device and an approximating vehicle detection method for precisely detecting an approximating vehicle travelling on the same road as that of own vehicle.

SOLUTION: The approximating vehicle detection device detects an approximating vehicle on the basis of noises collected by plural sound collectors mounted on own vehicle. The approximating vehicle detection device determines whether the movement in right-left direction of a sound source detected by the plural sound collectors is in a direction approximating toward own vehicle (S11) and determines whether the position in a vertical direction of the sound source detected by the plural sound collectors is in the same plane as that of own vehicle (S13). When it is determined that the movement in right-left direction of the sound source is in the direction approximating toward own vehicle and the position in the vertical direction of the sound source is in the same plane as that of own vehicle, the sound source is detected as an approximating vehicle.
