<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of determining whether a transmission mechanism therein is abnormal. <P>SOLUTION: When an image formation unit 5 forms an image on a paper sheet 3, a rotational period TP2 of an agitator 29 is detected after a switching operation of a transmission mechanism 100 is controlled so as to rotate the agitator 29 at a normal speed, and a rotational period TP1 of the agitator 29 is detected after the switching operation of the transmission mechanism 100 is controlled so as to rotate the agitator 29 at a slow speed.
